Faculty reading room / lounge
Extended library hours! (mentioned 7 times)
* * *
Samples:
"More hours. Open later every day!"
"Open 24/7 during finals"
"Extended library hours, especially during finals!!!"
"Longer hours every day during semester."
"What I want most are longer library hours; holidays"
Music room
Group study rooms!! (mentioned twice)
Quiet study areas -- as many as possible
Classic tables which have lamp & electric plug for laptop. [This message was accompanied by elaborate drawings depicting a classic single (private) study carrel with a classic library lamp.]
Showers for homeless
A room where one can stretch, twist, exercise a little to be able to break from studying and research -- re energize. Then being able to continue with research or studying after (yoga/tai chi)
Name tags on all student staff workers (at least first names so we know who is helping us.)
Recycling bins by every garbage can to help the environment.
Better lighting.
More power outlets for laptops and easily accessible [outlets].
I want to see nice people unlike the ones you have now [who] are rude.
It would have been nice to ask for our opinions BEFORE the plans were drawn out instead of asking AFTER the building is under constructions. So our opinions won't really count anyway!
Better, faster, newer, more computers! (5 mentioned)
* * *
Sample of comments:
"I want to see knew [new] computers. I mean that's the least we can get."
"More computers with ability to watch videos, hear music with hearing devices so we won't disturb anyone."
"Better laptops with reliable Internet connection."
Comfortable chairs
Faster Internet service (3 mentions)
Gimp program on computers. They are free and they are smaller than the Adobe programs. Students can create artwork on the computer for their classes.
Solar panels on the roof to tap into the sun's energy and save some money, which sets the bar [barre] for other universitiy libraries to copy.
"Fresno going green" [would be] free/great publicity for the university.
To be able to eat and drink anywhere in the library. (mentioned 2 times)
I think we should have a small starbucks similar to the one in fashion fair mall. It would create more jobs for students and also would eliminate having students going to the off campus site. Also having a starbucks in our library would be very convenient and bring revenue to the campus.
A cell phone area
A giant "free speech" posting board ... with NO CENSORSHIP! (Foul language, sexual remarks, etc. all allowed.)
Longer Hours! At least til midnight on school hours [nights?].
Gimp!
Name tags on all library workers and title, so we know if we're talking to a librarian or a student.
Lower [raise?] AC!
Library always too cold!
Showers during finals. We need to study all night but we need to be clean too. Also, beds so you can rest up before the finals.
A coffee house.
A public access DVD player (like they have at the Woodward Park Branch).
Free money
More copies of books.
Please get a newer microfilm reader and a printer for microfilm files.
To get 5 pages of microfilm files, I spent 45 minutes on it, because of the problems that I encountered with the readers and the printer!
New printers.
Have printers with the ability to print on both sides of paper.
You need a little more alive friendlier staff -- even though they are students -- being at least 65% engaged would be an improvement.
Longer hours during the fall and spring.
More areas with computers.
Quiet areas.
A children's room!
Some microfilm/microfiche machines that work and make photocopies more than 30% of the time!
Escalators
Demonstrations on how to reboot computers (a good way of showing consideration for whoever needs to use it next.)
Cell phone area
Food area
Longer hours
More books and magazines
More printers
DVD & CD RW computers
Easy to read map of the library
Vending machine with USB drives, pens, Post-it Notes, blank CDs, and other office products
A play (theatre) section. Why are they all in storage?!
As some of the students have difficulty to buy some of the expensive textbooks, the library should keep every copy of the text books recommended in every class. And let them check out at least 2 hours at a time.
Mailbox
ATM.
When I come to campus, I would like to minimize the number of places I need to go. Having a mailbox and an ATM would make it easier for everyone who has to run all over campus.
I would like to have a photo copier that way if you have pictures or any type of digital work you have to do, we can use a photo copier. (This is not a copy machine; it's a digital photo copier.)
More private individual study areas
Good air conditioning
A snack and drink area
Better pay for student assistants ...
Extended hours -- open until midnight at least on weeknights, and later on Friday and Saturday.
More books and journals, fewer "tech" solutions to "pen0and-paper" problems.
Better nametags for [librarians], staff, and students so we know who we are talking to.
